Health Commissioner Warns Against Delays as Jigawa Launches Major Hospital Projects

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammed Kainuwa, announced on Wednesday that the state government plans to establish five dialysis centers across the state. This was revealed in Dutse, the state capital, during the opening of bids for the construction of a diagnostic center and the completion of the Hadejia and Kazaure specialist hospitals.

Dr. Kainuwa mentioned that the dialysis centers will be located in the headquarters of Dutse, Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim, and Gumel Emirates, with a budget of N500 million allocated for these projects. He emphasized that these centers will provide free dialysis services to all patients in the state.

The commissioner also issued a strong warning against delays in contract execution, pointing out that the construction of the Hadejia and Kazaure specialist hospitals, which began six and seven years ago respectively, remains incomplete. He noted that the delays have caused the project costs to rise from N1.7 billion to N4 billion due to time wastage, price changes, and variations. Dr. Kainuwa stated that the government will no longer tolerate such delays and will revoke contracts and prosecute any consultants who cause further delays.

He also cautioned Ministry of Health staff, as well as those in the due process and monitoring bureau, against accepting substandard work on any project. He urged the successful bidders to complete their projects within the specified time frame and to maintain high-quality standards.

The Director-General of the Jigawa State Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau, Prof. Kasim Ibrahim, also addressed the successful bidders, urging them to ensure timely completion and deliver quality projects. He assured contractors of prompt payment for completed work but warned that the agency will not tolerate delays or subpar work, emphasizing that there will be no leniency regarding completion periods.
