The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) internal results. Of the candidates who participated, 828,284 students, representing 60.55%, achieved five credits, including in both Mathematics and English Language.
Prof. Dantana Wushishi, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, made this announcement at a press briefing held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday. He further disclosed that 1,147,597 candidates, or 83.90%, earned five credits or more, regardless of their scores in English and Mathematics.
Out of the 1,376,423 candidates who registered, 1,367,736 actually sat for the examination, with 702,112 males and 665,624 females. Prof. Wushishi highlighted that 8,437 candidates were involved in examination malpractice in 2024, a significant reduction from the 12,030 cases recorded in 2023, showing a 30.1% decrease.

Additionally, 2,267 candidates with special needs were accommodated during the exams. Of these, 1,104 had hearing impairments, 348 had visual impairments, 342 were albinos, 237 were diagnosed with autism, and 236 had low vision.
Prof. Wushishi also revealed that 40 schools from 17 states were involved in mass cheating, leading to 21 supervisors being blacklisted for negligence, aiding malpractice, and other misconduct across 12 states. One school in Ekiti State was recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
In terms of performance by state, Abia State led the nation, with 83.40% of candidates scoring five credits, including Mathematics and English, while Katsina State ranked lowest at 42%, with only 2.42% of its students meeting the benchmark. Abia also topped the list for candidates achieving five credits in any subject, at 95.84%.
