The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has suspended two officers from the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos. This action follows a voice note shared by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, in which Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed that after his conviction for abusing the naira in April, he was allowed to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment through the intervention of his godfather and the Nigerian Correctional Service Controller General.
According to a memo released on Thursday, signed by the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the officers suspended are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre, Lagos, and Sikiru Adekunle, also a Deputy Controller of Corrections at the same facility. The memo stated that the suspension follows allegations of infractions involving the officers in relation to Bobrisky’s sentence.
The board also suspended another officer, Ogbule Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate outside the facility without proper authorization.
In a separate development, DCC Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, in charge of the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja, was suspended for allegedly accepting money on behalf of an inmate.
Ahmed emphasized that the suspensions are temporary measures to allow for thorough investigations into the allegations. He assured that the findings of these investigations would be made public once concluded.
