The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended former Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, in connection with an alleged N27 billion fraud.
Ishaku, who completed his tenure in 2023 after serving for eight years, was reportedly arrested at his Abuja residence early Friday morning.
According to sources within the EFCC, the former governor remained in the agency’s custody as of Friday night. One of the sources disclosed that a minimum of 15 charges have been filed against him, and he is expected to be arraigned in court soon, as evidence against him has been gathered.
“Yes, he’s currently in our custody. We have been conducting a covert investigation on him since he left office. There are several instances of financial misconduct linked to him,” the source revealed.
Another insider indicated that Ishaku was detained because he failed to provide adequate explanations for the financial irregularities that occurred during his administration.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest but refrained from making further comments.
Ishaku’s detention follows the ongoing confrontation between the EFCC and former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, who is accused of embezzling N80.2 billion.
