In Osun State, a clash erupted between officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). According to Adeleke Kehinde, spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC Command, the issue began on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, around 8 pm, when a group of individuals dressed in “Ankara” with jackets, claiming to be police officers, drove recklessly into Elizabeth Estate in a private Toyota Sienna. They entered the estate, which is secured by NSCDC personnel, allegedly to arrest a suspect.
Kehinde’s statement described the incident as “barbaric police brutality,” detailing how the individuals failed to produce identification when asked by NSCDC officers. The confrontation intensified the following day when around 20 police officers returned to the estate, assaulting an NSCDC officer, tearing his uniform, disarming, and handcuffing him before transporting him to the Police State Headquarters. NSCDC Commandant Dr. Michael Adaralewa’s attempts to resolve the matter were reportedly ignored, and the officer was only released on Friday, October 25, following further mistreatment.

Demanding an investigation, Adaralewa insisted that no one should be protected in this case.
The Osun Police Command, through spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, stated that the officers were from Oyo State Police Command and were on an operation to apprehend a suspect. Opalola claimed that the NSCDC personnel obstructed the arrest, injuring two officers and deflating their vehicle’s tires, prompting a call for reinforcements. The incident remains under investigation.
