The Organized Labour in Cross River State has instructed all civil servants in the state to resume work on Wednesday.
This directive was issued by Mr. Monday Ogbodum, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, through a statement released on Tuesday in Calabar, the state capital.
According to Ogbodum, the decision to end the strike came after the success of the two-day warning strike organized to protest the government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage. He also announced that discussions between the State Government and the labour union would continue on Thursday.
In the statement, the strike committee expressed gratitude to workers for fully complying with the strike, which lasted from midnight on Sunday, November 24, to Tuesday, November 26.
“We sincerely thank all workers for their unwavering support during the recently concluded warning strike,” the statement read. “Your participation shows our shared determination to fight for what is rightfully ours. Despite the tough conditions we face at work, your resilience is commendable. Together, we can achieve great things.”
The strike was initiated after negotiations between the labour union and the state government fell apart. The union had hoped for a resolution on the new minimum wage but decided to take action when talks failed.
Workers are now being encouraged to return to their duties as the union prepares to resume negotiations with the government later in the week. The union remains committed to ensuring that the demands of workers are met, emphasizing unity and collective effort as the key to achieving their goals.
