The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has flagged off a nationwide sensitization campaign to address five key national issues, including World HIV/AIDS Day, security awareness, discouraging the get-rich-quick syndrome, World Human Rights Day, and the proposed tax reform bills.
Speaking at the launch of the campaign, themed “Promoting Awareness, Ethical Values, and National Development,” the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stressed the importance of collective action to resolve the country’s pressing challenges.
The campaign aligns with global efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, as the government focuses on accessible testing, treatment, and fighting stigma associated with the disease. On security, citizens were encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to strengthen national safety.
The NOA Cross River State Coordinator, Elder Ibor Otu also raised concerns about the rise of unethical practices and fraudulent schemes driven by the get-rich-quick syndrome, urging Nigerians to embrace integrity, hard work, and ethical values. The government highlighted its support for youth empowerment through initiatives like the National Social Investment Program (NSIP) and funding for small businesses.
In line with World Human Rights Day, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of all citizens, particularly in addressing issues like gender-based violence and child trafficking. The NOA encouraged Nigerians to stand up against human rights violations and report abuses through available channels.
On tax reforms, the agency explained that the federal government has proposed four key bills aimed at simplifying tax administration and addressing multiple taxation. These include the Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, which aim to ease the burden on taxpayers and improve fairness in the system.
The NOA emphasized that the active participation of all Nigerians is essential for the success of the campaign and the overall progress of the nation.
