The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has expressed its readiness to partner with the Nigerian Armed Forces in tackling insecurity and promoting development in the region.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
Akpabio said the collaboration was necessary to combat kidnapping, militancy, pipeline vandalism, illegal mining, and other threats that discourage investment and slow economic growth in the South-South. She described the initiative as a “new chapter of cooperation” designed to strengthen peace, security, and prosperity.
Responding, General Musa pledged the Armed Forces’ full support for the Commission. He highlighted the importance of community engagement in addressing security concerns and promised stronger protection for vital infrastructure in the region.
The Defence Chief further advocated for the revival of jetties and waterways as alternative transport systems while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for establishing the SSDC at a critical time in the nation’s history.
Those on the SSDC delegation included Dr. Charles Sylvester Enukhowate, Board Member; Hon. Joseph, Executive Director, Environment and Commercial; Hon. Marcus Nle Ejii, Executive Director, Projects; and members of the Commission’s technical team.
