Commissioner Condemns Violent Attack on C’River NYCN Chairman, Calls for Peace

The Cross River State Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, Barr. Odum-Ijom Ukam, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Emmanuel Olayi, describing it as “an assault on peace and youth leadership.”

He stated that this senseless act of aggression is a reprehensible affront, not only to Comrade Olayi as a person but also to the peace-loving youths of Cross River State, whom he represents with diligence and integrity.

“It is disheartening and unacceptable that a leader who has dedicated himself to the service, mobilization, and empowerment of young people would be subjected to such a traumatic experience.” He said.

Speaking of the incident, Ukam, stated that “this attack on Comrade Olayi is not just an attack on an individual but on the values of peace, progress, and leadership that Cross River State holds dear.”

“We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him and the entire youth constituency of our State. Violence has no place in our democracy, and those responsible will be made to face the full weight of the law. I assure all youths in Cross River State that their safety and security remain paramount to this administration.”

“On behalf of the Cross River State Government, the Ministry reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance on violence, intimidation, and all forms of criminality.”

“We are in close contact with security agencies and have called for a thorough and expedited investigation to ensure that those responsible for this cowardly act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

“The State Government will continue to strengthen mechanisms for youth protection, civic engagement, and leadership development in line with our unwavering commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable opportunities for all.”

“We urge all young people to remain calm and law-abiding, even in the face of provocation, and to trust the relevant authorities to deliver justice. This administration remains resolute in safeguarding every citizen, particularly our youths, who form the backbone of our development agenda.”

“The Ministry assures the public that this unfortunate incident will not derail our collective efforts to foster unity, empowerment, and security among all youth-led organizations in Cross River State.” He added.
