On 31st August 2025, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, joined the people of Obudu Local Government Area to celebrate their New Yam Festival. The visit formed part of his ongoing tour of the Northern Senatorial District which saw him engaging with the people, including collation of developmental challenges as well as inspection of ongoing projects.
Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Undiandiye, welcomed the leaders of Cross River North and on behalf of the people, presented a list of pressing concerns.
1) Unfair allocation of State employment opportunities
2) Completion of the International Cargo Airport
3) Construction and rehabilitation of roads
4) Improved Security
5) A lasting solution to boundary disputes
6) Urgent provision of boreholes for safe drinking water
In his response, Dr. Odey expressed surprise at reports of unfair allocation of employment opportunities in the State, stressing that the government had approved a fair and equitable process for all local governments. He assured the people that he would personally ensure their concerns are addressed.
The Deputy Governor went further to announce the construction of five boreholes, one in each ward of Utukalu, to provide access to potable drinking water. He also stated that the Utugwang–Mbube East Road has been captured in the state’s infrastructure plans. Dr. Odey reassured the gathering that Governor Bassey Otu is fully committed to seeing the completion of Obudu International Cargo AirPort in the shortest possible time.
