The Special Adviser on Local Content, Ambassador Awatt Caleb, led a two-day working visit to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, Kaduna State, sponsored by His Excellency,, Governor Bassey Otu,, Executive Governor of Cross River State.This visit marks a significant milestone in the partnership between Cross River State and NCAT, aimed at developing the aviation sector in the state.
The partnership is a strategic move to complement the Cross River State Government’s huge investment in the aviation sector, particularly with the recent acquisition and launch of two new CRJ-1000 aircraft. The state government has launched an initiative for the training and empowerment of indigenous pilots, and this partnership with NCAT is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this objective.
The Rector of NCAT, Dr. Ismail Danjuma, welcomed Ambassador Awatt Caleb highlighting the college’s establishment in 1964 by the United Nations as a flying school providing training for Nigerians and non-Nigerians. The partnership between Cross River State and NCAT will focus on several key areas, including
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineering: Training and capacity-building programs for aircraft maintenance engineers
- Piloting: Training and licensing programs for pilots
- Air Traffic Service Controllers: Training and certification programs for air traffic controllers
- Technical Communication: Training and capacity-building programs for technical communication specialists
- Airport Emergency Trainings: Training and simulation programs for airport emergency responders
- Flight Maintenance: Training and capacity-building programs for flight maintenance personnel
The partnership is expected to have numerous benefits for Cross River State, including the development of a skilled workforce in the aviation sector. NCAT has also offered to assist the state government in consultancy services and refresher courses for trained personnel. To formalize the partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed between Cross River State and NCAT.
The Rector commended Governor Bassey Otu for his initiatives and expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that NCAT will do everything possible to support the governor’s efforts. The visit concluded with a tour of the training center, showcasing aircraft and equipment.
