In line with the second phase of the 2025 edition of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation (JEPPC), the Diaspora Day was held on October 11, 2025 at the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Abuja.
The day has been marked by several activities including the parade of colors, election and installation of the Core Council of the High Council of Burkinabe Abroad (HCBE) in Abuja, presentation of Diaspora initiatives and commitments, a lecture on Burkina Faso core values and sharing of Community meal.
In his opening speech, the Chargé d’Affaires Zoully Désiré SAWADOGO welcomed all compatriots and thanked them for their presence and various contributions to the motherland. He enjoined them to show more patriotism to accompany the authorities of Burkina Faso in addressing the challenges facing our country.
The Diaspora Day was also an opportunity to discuss core values that define us as Burkinabe. In this regard, a conference was led by Colonel-Major DIAKOUMA Maldia on reference cultural values and republican values. Among the cultural values, it has been a matter of integrity, hospitality, tolerance, respect, solidarity, courage, fraternity, compassion and joking kinship, which values characterize Burkinabe. In terms of Republican values, the Colonel-Major emphasized patriotism, civility, dignity, justice, secularity, probity, transparency, impartiality and accountability.
Finally, the presenter called on each other to be Burkina Faso’s ambassadors abroad by respecting the laws and regulations of the host countries.
The Abuja Diaspora also had the opportunity to present initiatives and commitments undertaken to accompany the peace and development effort in Burkina Faso. HCBE delegates Abuja and Niger State, Mr. Diallo and M. Lankouande Benoît, have made the advocacy for better consular protection.
In other words, they informed the compatriots of their initiative to create an association in order to better save their compatriots who have been trafficked and scammed by network marketing.
After the various presentations, the discussions focused on grievances and concerns of compatriots among other relating to civil status deeds, residence permits and living conditions of compatriots in Nigeria and commitments were made for the motherland. Ended the day with a community meal sharing.
